Jury, Scientific Committee and Public jury

International jury

The international jury is selected by the scientific committee and composed of renowned architects and key figures from the architectural scene with a connection to Brussels. The international jury of this edition consists of the following persons:

  • Ido Avissar (FR)
  • Maria Conen (CH)
  • Sophie Delhay (FR)
  • Sebastian Skovsted (DA)
  • Ana Luisa Soares (PT)
  • Ellis Woodman (EN)

The international jury, chaired by the president, is responsible for selecting the winners in each category. The selection process occurs in two stages:

  • The jury makes an initial preselection and narrows down the number of submissions to five nominated projects per category.
  • In the second phase, the jury visits all the nominated projects, in the presence of their architects and selects the winners for each category.

Additionally, the jury selects a recipient for the Honourable Mention in Contemporary Heritage from the submissions, and for the Promising Young Architect, from the nominees proposed by the scientific committee.

IDO AVISSAR

Ido Avissar (°1972, FR) is an architect and urbanist who founded LIST in 2012, a Paris-based office focused on projects that bridge multiple disciplines. His work spans research, masterplans, large-scale planning, and architectural design, with notable projects like Metropolitan Landscapes Brussels. He completed his PhD, Intense Neutrality, in 2018. Avissar is currently the chair of Fragment at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Est and an invited professor at SciencesPo Paris. He has also taught at the Berlage Institute in the Netherlands and the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles.

MARIA CONEN

Maria Conen (°1979, CH) studied architecture at EPF Lausanne and ETH Zurich. In 2011, she co-founded Conen Sigl Architects in Zurich with Raoul Sigl. The practice, which has won several competition prizes and the Swiss Art Award in Architecture, works on a range of projects from housing to cultural and historic interventions. Maria Conen has taught at TU Munich, TU Dresden, and EPF Lausanne, and has been a Professor of Architecture and Housing at ETH Zurich since 2022. Her research focuses on the reuse and transformation of buildings and habitats.

SOPHIE DELHAY

Sophie Delhay (°1974, FR) graduated from ENSAP Lille and is the founder of her own office in Paris. Her work focuses on housing, aiming to move beyond standardized solutions and create spaces that align with a post-capitalist society. The collective and emancipatory aspects of her projects form the foundation of her urban-focused approach to housing. In 2019, she received the Équerre d’Argent Habitat prize, and in 2022, the Schelling Prize (DE). Delhay is currently a Professor and Director of the EPFL Lausanne Section, where she leads the Domestic-City Lab.

SEBASTIAN SKOVSTED

Sebastian Skovsted (°1982, DK) studied architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Denmark, where he also taught from 2015-2021. In 2014, he co-founded Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter in Copenhagen with Søren Johansen. He has lectured at institutions such as ETH Zurich, The Barbican, London Metropolitan University, Porto School of Architecture, and the Sydney Opera House. In 2019, he co-led a studio at the Porto Academy together with Søren Johansen. Johansen Skovsted Arkitekter has won several prizes, most recently the Henning Larsen Foundation’s Honorary Award (2024) and the Eckersberg Medal (2024). A monograph on their work was published by 2G International in 2023.

ANA LUISA SOARES

Ana Luisa Soares (°1988, PT) graduated in architecture from the Faculdade de Arquitectura do Porto, with an exchange year at the University of Tokyo. She has been a partner at fala since 2013 and has collaborated with Harry Gugger in Basel and Toyo Ito in Tokyo. Currently she is a guest professor in Lausanne, Geneva and Genova, while also working as a PhD researcher at FAUP. Fala was founded in 2013, based in Porto, and led by Filipe Magalhães, Ana Luisa Soares, Ahmed Belkhodja, and Lera Samovich.

ELLIS WOODMAN

Ellis Woodman (°1972, UK) studied architecture at the University of Cambridge and the University of North London.  He is the Director of The Architecture Foundation in London and is a widely published architecture critic.  His books include Modernity and Reinvention: The Architecture of James Gowan (2008), Habitat: Biq builds the City (2013) and Temples and Tombs: The Sacred and Monumental Architecture of Craig Hamilton (2019). His biography of Austen St Barbe Harrison, The Un-Englishman, will be published by MACK in 2026.

Scientific Committee

The scientific committee determines the composition of the international jury and selects the nominees for the Promising Young Architect, as well as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement mention.

The scientific committee consists of the following persons:

  • Sarah Lagrillière and Guy Condé-Reis (Urban.Brussels)
  • Amaryllis Jacobs and Lara Molino (A+ Architecture in Belgium)

Public Jury

The public will choose their favourite project (People’s Choice) from the 20 nominated projects across all categories. The selection is made by voting online via the Brussels Architecture Prize website, from the evening of the exhibition opening until the day before the ceremony.
