ECSTATICO architects transformed a studio at the Hôtel des Monnaies into a well-thought-out one-bedroom apartment. This transformation responds to the need for spatial division in small residential units. A wooden wall with sliding doors separates the more intimate areas, such as the bedroom and bathroom, from the light and airy living space with open kitchen. When the wall is opened, the spaces flow into each other and natural light can enter. The choice of materials enhances contrasts in the interior: raw elements such as the exposed concrete ceiling structure and the wall finish with clay plaster harmoniously combine with refined finishes such as the parquet floor, bathroom tiles and furniture. The clay plaster promotes moisture regulation between the bedroom and bathroom, which are connected. In this way, the project focuses on ecologically responsible renovation and quality of living. It is an inspiring example of how compact living can be simultaneously elegant and functional.
