This townhouse in Ixelles lacked a connection to its generous garden. Mamout architects designed an extension that visually refers to the existing bay window. The semicircular steel structure seamlessly blends with the existing house, but its striking green colour immediately catches the eye. A simple concrete staircase with refined steel handrail echoes the formality of the extension in a semicircle, forming the transition from intermediate to outdoor space. The extension is not only a passage to the garden but also becomes a space in itself. By adding seating and a table, it invites one to linger and enjoy the view. The green space is also visually drawn in from the kitchen. So the garden becomes part of the house, or the house part of the garden. The architects also felt it was important to keep the existing wisteria that winds along the façade of the house.
